The Frederick NYC: One of the Most Historic Hotels in Manhattan

Updated: Mar 31, 2023

This is a hotel review of The Frederick Hotel in New York City. This boutique hotel blends history with a contemporary edge in a vibrant area of Manhattan, and is known as one of the top Small Luxury Hotels in the USA!

Thank you to the Frederick Hotel for hosting me. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

Location

The Frederick Hotel is conveniently located in the center of Tribeca, a vibrant neighborhood in Lower Manhattan. It's also a few feet away from a subway stop which can take you to Upper Manhattan very easily.

To get here, you can easily take the subway from all NYC airports first to Penn Station, then from there take it to the Chambers St. stop.

About the Hotel

One of the longest-running hotels in Lower Manhattan, the building that is now home to The Frederick Hotel was built in 1844 in the Gothic Revival style, with Italianate details added soon after. Once a destination for Gold Rush miners and prominent politicians, lawyers, and judges in New York City, The Frederick Hotel has been stylishly reimagined to match the glam of our surrounding Tribeca neighborhood, while maintaining nods to our predecessors. It's even rumored that past presidents have stayed at this hotel!

Throughout the hotel, you'll find unique architectural accents and vintage styling that seamlessly blend mid-century modern, minimalist, and art nouveau decor for a one-of-a-kind aesthetic. Where the hotel was once one of the first to feature an Otis Brothers elevator and telephones in each guest room, the new Frederick Hotel is a hub of modern art, culture, and connection, with expressive accents that pay homage to our storied past throughout the hotel.

The Room

We had the most comfortable stay at the Frederick Hotel. It provides cozy accommodations with one-of-a-kind accents and charm that reflect the building's landmark history in NYC. Exposed brick, curated antique-style furnishings, and luxe amenities make for a memorable stay.

Living Room/ Bedroom

During my time, I stayed in a Loft Suite King Bed. The room is spacious and features a plush king bed and pull-out sofa bed. You can get work done on the vintage writing desk or lounge in the living area with exclusive NYC magazines and Wi-Fi.

Bathroom

This is the private bathroom within the room. It features luxurious C.O Bigelow bath amenities and a spacious rain head shower. They also put plush robes and slippers in your room perfect for lounging in.

The Property

Located in Tribeca, bordering SoHo and FiDi in Lower Manhattan, The Frederick Hotel places you at the heart of one of NYC's most vibrant, artistic, and stylish neighborhoods! I really loved staying in Lower Manhattan, it's quieter with still ample amount of things to do, see, and eat!

Serafina Tribeca: The Italian Restaurant at the Hotel

One night we went down to the restaurant a part of the Frederick, Serafina Tribeca and had a delicious meal! Serafina serves a world-renowned menu of Italian staples, including homemade pastas, inventive salads, and the legendary thin-crust pizza. I ordered the Penna alla Vodka, Chocolate Mousse Cake, and their special Serafina Champagne Cocktail and felt like I was transported to Italy! It was all so delicious, and they had a very large range of meals accommodating to everyone. (prices are also very typical for NYC)

Primo's: The Art-Deco Bar at the Hotel

Primo's is the bar on-property at the Frederick. The vibe is really awesome and they serve small bites and late-night comfort meals complemented by classic and original cocktails and natural wine! We ordered 3 different drinks, and were not disappointed by any of them! It was the perfect place to hang out or have a birthday drink celebrate (like I did!). Prices of drinks are also very average for the area.

Last Thoughts...

The Frederick Hotel was the absolute perfect place to stay during my time in New York City. I would recommend it for anyone looking for an affordable, yet luxurious stay in a vibrant part of the city.

I have stayed in multiple parts of the city including Times Square, Harlem. and Midtown and the location of the Frederick in lower Manhattan has been my favorite place to stay! It's an area that's more outside of the most touristy areas so it's more local, yet there are so many things to see, do, and eat!

So if you are looking for the perfect city getaway, this is your place to go! The location couldn't be better and the restaurant is so delicious. Staying here is worth every penny, and I already can't wait to visit again sometime in the future!
